Having a clean diet is one of the best and easiest ways to sustain a healthy lifestyle. By being conscious of what we are putting on our plates we are able to eat more of the foods that make us happy while preventing and reducing the risk of disease.
I have a recipe that is hard to beat when it comes to clean eating. This Cabbage Mushroom Stir fry with Avocado embodies what clean eating means, and it perfectly suits, not only a vegan diet, but people on paleo and keto diets can also enjoy this nurturing meal.
But, what does "eating clean" even mean?
Well, more so than a diet, clean eating is a lifestyle and it simply means getting as many whole foods as possible on our plates, relying on fruits, veggies, nuts, legumes, whole grains, and all things natural to feed ourselves and nourish our bodies.
Here are a few things you have to pay close attention to and what I recommend you focus to clean up your game:
Reduce or eliminate processed foods, mainly, ultra-processed.
Once you know what to look for and what to avoid, adopting a cleaner diet is not as difficult as it may sound and the benefits are well worth the effort. Your energy levels will skyrocket, you lower the risk of cardiovascular disease, you are able to better manage your weight, it helps support mental health and studies have found that it'll even prevent cancer.
Cooking a clean meal doesn't have to be neither difficult nor boring, you can make easy and quick meals like the one we are about to make that believe it or not will leave you satiated for a while and it even tastes amazing.
To make it simple enough so you can easily put it together on any given week night we are using only fresh ingredients that you can get at your local market, nothing too fancy nor hard to find.
For the stir fried veggies I'm using a mushroom mix that I buy at the farmers market, it has shiitake mushrooms in it, which add a lot of flavour to this dish, making a massive difference since other kinds of mushroom tend to have a bit of a bland flavour.
Aside from the mushrooms, we have onion, zucchini, and cabbage for the stir fry, served alongside a green mixed salad with tomato and avocado. And we are drizzling the whole thing with a delicious, easy to make dressing, which has only 4 ingredients: extra virgin olive oil, back pepper, lime and salt.
Try using the least amount of salt, just enough to bring out all the delicious flavours in this recipe, and if possible try using sea salt or Himalayan pink salt which are a lot less processed than regular salt, and actually contain essential minerals for our overall health.
There it is, clean eating made easy and delicious.
