Last week I was thinking it's been a while since I've made a new smoothie recipe. To make a good comeback I came up with a recipe you are going to love. We are making a High Protein Apple Pie Smoothie. Is like dessert in a cup!
I always praise smoothies because of how practical and versatile they are. With a few ingredients and a blender, you can put together a delicious and healthy combo that will fill your belly with all the right things.
When I talk about smoothies I usually say how perfect they are for days with little or no time for cooking, especially for hectic mornings. And even though, this apple pie smoothie fits into that category, I like to sit down and enjoy every sip of it.
I've been trying to take things a bit slower now that my son is back in school. Sometimes life can get a bit crazy and we feel we're always against time. But it's important to remember to be present and enjoy the moment.
I once had a meditation teacher tell me to use food as a means to ground myself and be present. You can be mindful of every bite, every sip, the texture, the different flavours, aromas and colours in your food. Seems simple, but it breaks the habit of overthinking and it allows you to actually enjoy your meal.
This apple pie smoothie recipe is the perfect food item to do this. All the ingredients we are using add a ton of flavour. And it has a couple different textures that will not go unnoticed.
As you would imagine, this apple pie smoothie tastes…well, like apple pie so there's not much to say in that regard. It's sweet and heartwarming, and incredibly delicious. It really tastes like a fresh apple pie coming out of the oven.
To give it a bit of an extra punch, we are adding a scoop of protein powder so you can have it for breakfast or around your workouts. I like using unflavoured Sunwarrior protein powder to avoid making it any sweeter.
The last touch on this apple pie smoothie is what gives it a dessert feeling to it. We are adding crumble graham crackers to the bottoms of the jar. This is a crucial element of this recipe, it will give you a fun crunchy experience while you sip on your drink.
The graham crackers add that freshly baked pie crust flavour to our smoothie, that's why it tastes like an actual pie. Also, the texture of the crumbs has its own role in this recipe. The crumbs will be crunchy at first but they will turn soggy the longer they sit. Just like eating a real pie and the flavour of the crumbs dipped in the smoothie is so good.
Indulge your sweet cravings with this delicious apple pie smoothie. And if you need more smoothie recipes, head here to check out our other options.
