You won't believe how amazing this smoothie is. You will get a true health elixir served in a glass in the comfort of your own home. This delicious red velvet smoothie is refreshing, incredibly healthy and so so colourful.
When I say this red smoothie is a health elixir I am not exaggerating. I added a few different ingredients to a blender to make it super easy to pack on nutrients with each sip you take. So let me tell you a bit of what's in there.
First of all, our star ingredient is one of my favourite veggies, beetroot. Beetroots are jam-packed with a ton of vitamins minerals, and they add very little calories to your daily count. They are high in carbs which makes them quite filling versus some other veggies that have a higher water content.
With that said, here are some of the great benefits you get when you pack on beets:
Oh my goodness! The list is never-ending! But you get the idea. Having a beetroot smoothie first thing is a no-brainer. I do recommend to boil the beetroots before you add them to the blender. First of all, they are high in fiber so they are hard to blend when raw.
Also, as I mentioned, beetroots are high in carbs, thus on sugars. When you cook your beets they become sweet and super delicious. This way you don't have to add any extra sweetener to this smoothie. The beet will do all the work.
A beet smoothie sounds a bit boring and not so appealing. I added other fruits to make it healthier and tastier. And since I usually have this early in the morning I like drinking, what I call, antioxidant bombs.
Our red velvet smoothie also has strawberries, orange juice, and apples. These three fruits are super rich in antioxidants and other nutrients as well. If you have everything fresh even better, but I sometimes add frozen strawberries and I add all-natural orange juice that I buy at the local market.
Lastly, I add a bit of ginger to add some spice. Ginger is also really good for you. It has a lot of anti-inflammatory properties that help keep a great range of diseases away. A little goes a long way so make sure you don't overdo it. Otherwise, it can overpower the other flavours and the spice can be too much for some people.
You only have to throw all the mentioned ingredients in the blender and spin away! In two minutes you will have a super delicious red velvet smoothie and a high-end health elixir. Isn't this the best way to start your day?
