We have for you the ultimate vegan Korean sauce. This delicious and unique Sweet Dipping sauce goes well with all different sorts of food. Use it as a dipping sauce or drizzle over veggies, rice, or even some tofu. The possibilities are endless here!
We needed a dipping sauce for our Korean Potato Pancake recipe so we came up with this beauty. The pancakes are made with shredded potatoes, onions and we added nori flakes for some extra flavour in there.
But we needed something extra to enhance the overall taste of the Korean pancakes. I looked for a vegan Korean sauce at the shop but I encountered two main issues. One, a lot of them were not vegan. And two, some of them were way too spicy.
I don't manage spicy food that well, so I found it a lot easier to make a sauce from scratch. That's how I came up with this recipe which has a sweet and sour taste, but the sweetness is rather subtle. Just enough to balance all the other strong flavours.
I made it with garlic, soy sauce, maple syrup, rice vinegar, and some roasted sesame seeds. I also added chilli flakes, not a lot, just enough to have a nice little kick. You can adjust the amount to what you and your family prefer and make it as spicy or mild as you like.
To make it, all you have to do is mix everything really well and adjust the taste. Just make sure you give it a good stir before you serve it. It might separate and we don't want to be serving that!
