Vegan Currywurst

Vegan Currywurst

Today's recipe is all about German flavours and traditions. We are recreating the vegan version of one of the most famous and delicious street foods from home, currywurst. The recipe is super easy and the result incredibly satisfying.

We love street food here at but we are also not willing to wait to travel to a certain country or place to have that experience. For that reason, I try to recreate staple dishes from many different places. I know it will never be the same since street food is packed with flavour and novelty. But we can at least try to get as close as possible.

The street food I crave the most is probably from back home, especially currywurst. If you've never heard of this before let me tell you a bit about it. It is really simple but also incredibly delicious and comforting.

Vegan Currywurst ingredients

Currywurst consists of a sausage that has been steamed and pan-fried. They serve it cut into small bite-sized pieces and drizzled it with a flavourful tomato and curry sauce. It also comes with a side, you can pick between french fries or a bread roll of some sort.

As much as I love currywurst I don't make it super often. Let's just say that if we had a list of unhealthy recipes here at, this one would definitely be on there. For that reason it is reserved for special occasions.

This time, my family was craving french fries so bad and they were on a mission. I wasn't super inspired to cook and currywurst sounded like a great option. I gave in and I'm so happy I did!

The recipe is the most practical thing you can ever make. You can find the vegan sausages at most supermarkets now. And the fries are from the frozen food section. The sauce is the only thing we have left.

Vegan Currywurst sauce

The sauce is what really makes the recipe so special and probably why the dish is so popular back home. It's made with a few different ingredients which make it heartwarming and super comforting. If you are out on a stroll on the streets of Germany, this is exactly what your body needs.

To make the sauce you need ingredients you probably already have at home. We need to keep things simple and we don't want you to go out of your way to make this recipe happen. We are all about being practical!

Tomato sauce is the base of our curry sauce. This will give us the perfect consistency, not too thick and not too runny. We want the sauce to stay on the sausage while it's making its way from the plate to your mouth.

Now, just serve the sausages cut into bite-size pieces with a good amount of sauce on top and some fries on the side. You will absolutely love this currywurst and if you don't overdo your french fry intake you might be able to keep those calories at bay. Good luck with that!
